Wisconsin health plans’ collaboration in a diabetes care improvement project established a new standard of care for diabetes management. Treating diabetes consistent with recognized guidelines can reduce costs $691 per patient per year.

Health plans strive to prevent illness and improve the health status of their members by designing wellness programs for employers. They offer nutrition and fitness services, weight-loss and control programs, depression management education, complementary check-ups and more. The return on investment from worksite wellness efforts is $3 for every $1 spent. And the return is greater when improved employee morale and productivity is factored in.
