The Wisconsin Association of Health Plans is the industry voice of 17 Wisconsin health plans offering innovative solutions to groups, individuals and governments seeking more efficient and effective ways to deliver better health care. Directly, our member health plans provide cost-effective health coverage to nearly 1.3 million individuals. Considering their affiliated companies, our members are part of organizations serving more than 3 million Wisconsin residents.

Facts about Wisconsin Association of Health Plans Members

  • As of November 2008, 16 Association member health plans directly serve 495,000 BadgerCare Plus and SSI enrollees. 
  • Association member plans are among the country's leaders in health care quality--they were among the first to adopt and help develop standardized measures of health plan performance, and their quality scores rank consistently above national averages.  To view a sampling of health plan measures collected by the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, click here.
  • Wisconsin health plans are innovators in health insurance product designs that help customers better manage their health care dollars, including consumer-directed health plans. 
  • In 2007, the Association-member health plans participating in the commercial health insurance market in Wisconsin paid out approximately 91 cents in health care services for every $1 of insurance premium taken in.  They spent less than 10 cents on administration, and profits remained among the lowest in health care: less than 2 cents for every $1 in premium.
